Flint Sit-down Strike

Strike Methodology

The timing of the Flint Sit-Down Strike was a surprise to both the workers and company (Secrecy of the Timing [audio] and The Timing of the Flint Sit-Down Strike and Role of Women in the Midland Strike [audio]) though union organizers had come to Flint (Strike Leaders Were More Radical [audio] and Involvement of the Socialist Party. [audio]) At first, there was confusion (Sit Down or Walk Out? [audio]) but ultimately, the sit-down was effective (The Theory of the Sit-Down Strike [audio], Effectiveness of the Sit-Down Strike [audio], Sitdown [text], and Strike Methodology [text]). Outside the plant, additional dynamics were involved (The Role of Women at Chevrolet, Fisher Body and in the Red Berets [audio]) even as the company tried to end the strike (Keeping the Company out of the Plant During the Strike [audio]) until a compromise was reached (John L Lewis and Frank Murphy Compromise [audio])
