AWLA

Welcome to AWLA [African Women Lawyers Association] an Ngo with an objective to raise the status of women in Africa and creation of the awareness on child rights.

AWLA was established in 1998 at a conference of African women meeting in Accra. At this historic meeting the delegates from over twenty African countries advocated for a regional meeting for women because FIDA [Federation of Women Lawyers] were in only four countries.
Upon this a decision was taken on the formation of AWLA. with the first meeting to be held in Nairobi -Kenya.

The meeting in Nairobi appointed the Executive Board for the organization which was held by various countries in the sub- region. Ghana was selected as the country to hold the Chairperson's position.in the person of Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu.

Member countries are to choose their executive and adopt their own constitutions.

Individual and corporate membership is allowed at different membership dues which is fixed by member c©ountries.
