The reporter commented that Richardson's paper was complex and tightly written. With respect to whether the morbific agent, or virus, reproduced itself within the host, or caused changes in the body that produced a new poison that caused the symptoms, Richardson indicated that he was inclined to think the latter occurred. This view was certainly at odds with Snow's theory. If Snow was present at the meeting, he chose not to comment.
