MATRIX/H-Net and the Department of History

History faculty and graduate students work closely with MATRIX, the Center for Humane Arts, Letters, and Social Sciences Online.

Members of the History faculty, including David Bailey, David Robinson, Mark Kornbluh, Peter Knupfer, Lisa Fine, Peter Alegi and Lewis Siegelbaum have collaborated with MATRIX on several educational projects and websites.

Professors Sam Thomas, David Robinson, Leslie Moch, David Bailey, Maureen Flanagan, Peter Alegi, Roger Rosentreter, Peter Knupfer, and Alan Fisher are among the faculty and graduate students who serve as editors and advisory board members for online networks in their fields sponsored by H-Net: Humanities and Social Sciences Online, which is headquartered at MSU's MATRIX Center.

Through Matrix's Humanities Computing Certificate Program, graduate students learn essential skills in new media that can be counted toward requirements for advanced postgraduate degrees. Certificate-holders also are eligible for employment on a variety of Matrix's many digital history projects involving oral history, public school teaching, information design, and digital content development.

History Department Chair Mark Kornbluh serves as both Director of MATRIX and Editor in Chief of H-Net, and Associate Professor of History Peter Knupfer serves as an Associate Director of MATRIX and the Executive Director of H-Net. In addition, several Department of History graduate students hold staff positions with MATRIX as copy editors and content specialists.
