African Online Digital Library (AODL)

This project has focused on preserving and making accessible isolated and/or fragile research materials from under-funded and therefore resource-deprived institutions; developing collaborations with researchers for digitizing and distributing publicly their privately held collections; testing low-bandwidth distributive inputting and content management frameworks for digital libraries; training cultural heritage colleagues in digital opportunities and methods; and producing collaborative frameworks for presenting these materials for multilingual public, academic and student audiences. New AODL testbeds will contain important primary source research materials from the personal archives of retiring Africanist researchers and materials made available through new partnerships with universities and cultural heritage organizations in Ghana and Mali . Through these testbeds, the Center will develop new methods and processes for multilingual preservation, searching, and presentation of cultural heritage resources.
