Introduction (top)
The focus of this module is to extend issues of web usability to more advanced
issues of design including the "visual logic" of bringing together
text and images and the theories of using color on the web. Anne Wysocki has
recently argued that it is a common and overly simplistic to regard visuals
as merely supporting "the words or content or message or information"
of a text. Instead, she suggests the multimedia capabilities of the Internet
make the visual aspects of texts "idea and assertion, doing
the work of content and information." She says that exanded
and modified conceptual categories are needed for talking about visual aspects
of texts. And in regard to color, Lynda Weinman explains that "Making color
look good is less about which color you pick and more about other issues such
as intensity, contrast, and saturation."
