This project has conducted several training programs and is part of the multi-faceted, three-year, collaborative training program that identifies and trains a cadre of archivists, curators, scholars and students to work in South Africa on cultural heritage projects. Coordinated in partnership with a team of South African and U.S. universities, archives, and museums, this project enables South African institutions to manage effectively the rich national cultural heritage of South Africa. In July 2000, the project sponsors conducted a three-week training institute at MSU, the Chicago Historical Society, and the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
